Vadapalani Andavar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Muruga. It is located in Vadapalani, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It was renovated in the 1920s and a Rajagopuram was built during that time. The temple has grown in popularity, which is believed to be in part due to the patronage of cinema stars. The belief is very strong here that people who cannot undertake the pilgrimage to the Palani temple can visit the Vadapalani temple with their offerings. Palaniandavar showers devotees with his blessings just the same as in Southern Palani. His grace resolves all issues for devotees, and they believe in the power of this sacred temple.
After 14 years, Kumbabhishekam was held at Vadapalani Murugan Temple on 23.01.2022. Devotees had nice darshan.
Vadapalani Murugan Temple in Chennai is very popular. Kumbabhishekam was held in this temple last year 2007. According to the rules of Agama, Kumbabhishekam should be performed once in 12 years. Therefore, in the year 2020, a temple was built and renovation work was carried out in the temple. Due to various reasons including the implementation of curfew due to the spread of Corona, the restoration work was completed recently after 2 years.
After 14 years, 108 Homagundas were set up in the Yagasala while Kumbabhishekam was taking place. Theertha was brought from rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Tungabhadra, Kaveri, Krishna, Godavari and Tamiraparani to be kept in this Yagasala. Also, Punnya Theertha was brought from 15 places like Rameswaram Theertha Well and Arupadai Murugan Temples. In it, 1,300 urns were kept.
Yagasala poojas were conducted by Shivacharyas led by Pillayarpatti Sarvasadagam Beggar Gurus. Yesterday at 6 o’clock in the morning, the sixth Yagasala Pujas started. Shivacharyas performed pooja to Gopura Kalas at 9 am. Following this, they took holy water pots from the yaga road in a procession and went around the temple. Holy water was sprinkled on the towers at 10.30 am. Simultaneously abhishekam was performed for all the planes. This was followed by camphor aarti.
Devotees were not allowed to participate in the Kumbabhishek ceremony due to complete curfew. However, people living in the surrounding areas of the temple visited the temple. The police then allowed the public there with various restrictions. While the door of the temple was closed, the devotees stood outside and watched the Kumbabhishek ceremony.
Due to this, the devotees stood on the floors of the surrounding houses and on the streets to perform the Kumbabhishekam. When the Kumbabhishekam takes place, the devotees chant ‘Arogara for Kandan, Arogara for Murugan’.
