Thrissur Pooram, also known as Trichur Pooram festival is the biggest temple festival in Kerala celebrated at Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur district. Thrissur Pooram 2020 date is May 2.
Thrissur Pooram falls on Pooram or Puram nakshatram in Medam month as per traditional Kerala Malayalam calendar. The festival is also known as the Pooram of all Poorams (the biggest festival). Only more than 200 years old, Trissur Pooram is celebrated widely in Kerala as it has become the grand state festival.
The ruler of Cochin, Sakthan Thamparan (Raja Ravi Varma) who was known for his decisive administration orchestrated the Pooram festival to be held in Trissur. Sankthan Thamparan unified 10 temples around Trissur and organized the Pooram at Vadakkunathan Temple.
In 2020, Thrissur Pooram is cancelled due to Coronavirus pandemic. The Coronavirus Lockdown will be till May 3 and Thrissur Pooram is on 2nd May. Only the main rituals will be held in respective temples with the presence of maximum five persons.

In 2019, Thrissur Pooram starts with Madathil Varau at 11 am, Elanjithara Melam at 2.30 pm, Kudumattam (Royal Darbar) at 5.30 pm on 13th May. The spectacular show of fireworks is celebrated on 14th May 2019 at 3 AM.
