Tapovan Maharaj (1889–1957) was a Hindu saint and Vedanta scholar. His birth name was Subramanian.

Sri Swami Tapovan Maharaj is one of the famous saints in the 20th century. He was a contemporary of Swami Sivananda. Swami Tapovan Maharaj was born in the year 1889 in Palakkad, Kerala in a pious Hindu Nair family. Even as a small child, he used to sincerely worship the divine deities, whenever his mother takes him along with her to the temples. He was interested in doing puja to the Shiva Lingam with his own hands. He was a clever student, and got good knowledge in all regional languages, and he was able to write nice spiritual songs on Lord Shiva at his young age itself.

He read lot of Hindu religious books, and got good knowledge in divine scriptures. Very soon he has become good in giving divine lectures, and used to deliver spiritual lectures in the nearby temples.He has become a spiritual saint at his teenage.

He went to Gangotri, Uttarkashi and Rishikesh, in search of spiritual path.He wrote books on Holy pilgrimages, and mentioned his travel experiences in the books.He used to enjoy scenery, and spent several years of his life in the mountain caves of Himalayas, and for several days he performed rigorous meditation on Lord Shiva. After completing his life journey, he died in the year 1957, and his holy body was immersed in the Holy River Ganges.
