Thousands of devotees throng to Arasavalli Surya Narayana Swamy temple, the famous temple of Sun God in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, to witness the festive celebrations at the temple during which sun rays touched the feet and the head of the presiding deity of the temple – Sri Surya Narayana Swamy varu.
Thursday, on 1 October, Friday, on 2 October and Saturday, on 3rd October, the temple hosted the spectacular event. According to temple sources, the rays fall on the Dhwajasthambam through the Gopuram of the temple and directly touch the feet of God.
Special Surya puja and rituals were performed to mark the ceremonial occasion. Arasavalli temple is built in such a manner that the early morning rays of the sun fall on the feet of the deity twice a year, in March and October even when the five entrance gates are closed.
