Chandra Grahan, Surya Grahan are the most auspicious timings for Shraddh, Pinda daana, Pithru Tharpanam & other rituals related to dead ancestors.
Shraddh rituals, Pinda Daana, Pithru Tharpanam on Grahan days (Chandra Grahan, Surya Grahan – Lunar Eclipse, Solar Eclipse) is one of the highly meritorious deeds to be performed. Grahana Shanti Snana (bath), Daana (charity), Japa and Shiva Pooja are the other things to be done during Grahan. Those who donate anything during Grahan would get the merits of donating land (Bhudaana).
Grahana Samaya Shraddham is performed with cooked rice or normal rice; fruits, clothes, money, or gold can be donated to the Brahmin. The rich can also perform ‘Thulabhara’ – donating any material equivalent to the weight of the performer).
The rice which is cooked during Grahan should be avoided. It should not be consumed.
If Grahana Shraddh rituals are performed in holy places like Varanasi, Haridwar, Kurukshetra, Ujjain, Nashik, Allahabad Triveni Sangam, Rameshwaram, etc. it gives highest of the high merits.
Best time for Shraddh during Grahan
The best and auspicious time for Shraddh during Grahan is between Grahana Sparsha Kaala and Grahana Moksha Kaala. The entire stretch of Grahan is the auspicious period.
If it is Surya Grahan, the best time would be the afternoon i.e. 1 PM to 2 PM. Aparahna Shraddham / Madhyahana Shraddham is the best time for Shraddha.
Chandra Grahana Suthak Timings
On 9 March 2016, after Grahan Mokshakaal only, everyone should finish their lunch. Since, in India this grahan is visible with partial clarity, we should perform ‘Pattu’ & ‘Vidupu’ Grahana Shanti Snana i.e. take bath before and after the eclipse.
Performing Japa, Shanti pooja, etc during Chandra Grahanam is the highly meritorious deed. Temples will be closed during the Chandra Grahan, after Grahana moksha kalam, grahana shanti poojas and Samprokshana are performed to open the temples.
