Shiva Temples in Kayankulam, Alappuzha

In the taluk of Kayankulam, Sri Mahadevan temple is located at Mararikkulam. It is situated 16 kms north of Alappuzha. It is an important temple of this region because the shrine is a century old. The major festivals of this temple are Mahashivarathri, Navarathri, thiruvathira, ashtami rohini, etc. Thirunagamkulangara Sree Mahadeva temple is situated in vayalar. It is just 4 kms away from Cherthala.

During the month of makharam, on the thiruvathira star day, with an aarattu, an Eight days festival is celebrated in a grand manner.

Thiruvizha Sri Mahadeva temple is located in Thekkummuri panchayat that is just 1km on the cherthala – alappuzha route near east of thiruvizha bus stop. In this temple, primary deity is a swayamboo murthy (self-origin). In this temple, with three seevelies and thanthric rites, pujas are conducted five times in a day. During the month of meenam, on the thiruvathira star day, with an aaraattu, 10 days festival is celebrated in a festive manner in this temple.
