This day is known as Vighnaraja Sankashti Chaturthi, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles.
The vrat (fast) begins from the start of the Chaturthi tithi (around mid-afternoon) and ends after the moonrise in the evening.
Devotees traditionally observe a fast and perform prayers to Lord Ganesha on this day, and the fast is broken after sighting the moon (Chandrodaya).
This special Sankashti Chaturthi is considered highly auspicious, and observing it is believed to remove difficulties and bring prosperity and wisdom.
