Today, 28 December 2012 is Purnima. It is Margashirsha Purnima, Full Moon day in Margashirsha Month as per Hindu calendar.

Purnima begins at 1.26 PM on 27 December and ends at 3.48 PM on 28 December. It marks the end of Margashirsha Month in North Indian Purnimant calendars.

Margashirsha Purnima has great significance in terms of spiritual observance. Datta Jayanti is observed on this day.

Arudra Darshanam (Thiruvadirai Festival) is observed in Tamil Nadu during this Purnima (Margazhi Purnima).

Goddess Lalita Jayanti (Shodashi Mahavidya Jayanti) is observed on this day. Maa Shodashi is one of the Dasamahavidya Goddesses.

Annapurna Jayanti is also celebrated on Margashirsha Purnima. Mata Annapurna is the Goddess of food and nutrition.

Margashirsha Purnima is also popular as Korala Punnami, Dwatrimshi Purnima and Battisi Purnima in various parts of the country. It is observed as Pandu Osha in Odisha. It is dedicated to Pandu Maharaj, the father of Pandavas.
