Paadal Petra Sthalangal in Nannilam

It is to be highly remembered that Nannilam located in the state of Tamil Nadu is a sacred town that is blessed with ancient Lord Shiva temple scattered in the heart and outskirt of this holy town. The local residents and the devotees and pilgrims from far and near in the state of Tamil Nadu give much religious importance to those temples situated in this particular town with great devotion and dedication.

Among the 275 temples listed in the Paadal Petra Sthalangal, 25 temples are located in Nannilam. Nannilathu Perunkoil or temple is located in the Nannilam Town; it is south bank of Cauvery.

Thiruveezhimizhalai temple is situated at a distance of nearly 10 km northwest of Nannilam, it is on the south bank of Cauvery mainly on the north bank of Arisilaaru river.

Karuveeli Kottittai, Karuveli temple is situated at a distance of about 6 km west of Thiruveezhimizhilai above, it is also on the south bank of Cauvery.

Thiruvaanjiyam temple is located at a distance of nearly 8 km southwest of Nannilam, on the south bank of Cauvery.

It is to be noted that Thiruvanniyur temple is located at Anniyur that is after thiruveezhimizhilai, it is just 4 km north, south bank of Cauvery and on the bank of Arisilaar River.

Thirukondeecharam temple is situated at a distance of approximately 3 km east of Nannilam, south bank of Cauvery.

It is to be remembered that Thiruppanaiyur temple is located at a distance of nearly 6 km southeast of Nannilam and on the south bank of Cauvery.

On the other hand, Thiruvirkudi temple is situated at a distance of about 10 km southeast of Nannilam.

There are few Lord Shiva temples that are located on the outskirt of the Local town of Nannilam that has great religious imporatance and social value among the devotees and pilgrims. These temples can be reached easily through roadways as there are plenty of local buses that ply from the heart of the town and nearby towns. These temples in this holy town are known for its grand Shivarathri festivity. Special pujas and rituals are performed as per the Vedic practices and ancient Hindu rules and regulations.

These temples are as follows. Thiruppayatrur, Thirupayathangudi temple is at a distance of 4 km east of Thiruvurkudi temple on the north of river vettaar. It is also on the south bank of Cauvery. Thiruppugalur temple is located at a distance of about 8 km east of Nannilam, south bank of Cauvery and Ramanatheecharam, Thirukannapuram temple is located at a distance of nearly 11 km east of nannilam, south bank of cauvery (3 km northwest of Thiruchengattankudi below).

It is to be noted that Thiruchengattankudi temple is located at south bank of Cauvery. On the other hand, Thirumarugal temple is located near and east of Thiruchengattankudi temple, it is on the south bank of Cauvery.

Thiruchaathamangai temple is also located near and east of Thirumarugal above, south bank of Cauvery. Thiruppalliyin Mukkoodal temple is located at a distance of about 11 km southeast of nannilam that is next to Tiruvaarur), south bank of Cauvery. Karaveeram temple is located south of nannilam that is next to Vadagandam on the Tiruvaarur-Kumbakonam road, it is south bank of Cauvery.

Within the holy town of Nannilam, there are few ancient Lord Shiva temples that are largely dedicated to Lord Shiva in this region. It is to be noted that there are many temples that are situated at the heart and outskirt of the town. Local residents participate in all the activities related to these temples. People from far and near visit these temples on the eve of Shivarathri and other Lord Shiva related auspicious days and festive days.

These temples are as follows. Thiruperuveloor, Manakkal Ayyanpettai temple is located at a distance of nearly 10 km southwest of Nannilam, it is situated on the south bank of Cauvery. Thalaiyaalangadu temple is located southwest of Nannilam on the Tiruvaarur-kumbakonam road. It is just 4 km north of Enn Kannil. Kottaaru, Kottaram temple is located at a distance of nearly 10 km northeast of Peralam, it is on the south bank of Cauvery. Ambar Perunthirukkoil, Ambal temple is located at a distance of about 6 km southeast of Peralam, south bank of Cauvery

Ambar Maagalam temple is located at a distance of just4 km south of Peralam on the north bank of Arisilaar River; it is south bank of Cauvery. Meeyachur temple is located at a distance of nearly 2 km wesy of peralam, south bank of Cauvery. Thiladhaipathi temple is located at a distance of about 5 km southwest of peralam on the south bank of Arisilaar River, walk about 2 km to temple. Thiruppaamburam temple is located at a distance of approximately 7 km west of Peralam, south bank of Cauvery and Thiruchirukudi temple is situated at a distance of nearly 2 km west of Thiruppaamburam, it is on the south bank of Cauvery.
