Paadal Petra Sthalangal in Karaikal

Karaikal is a sacred town located in the state of Tamil Nadu. This holy town has four Lord Shiva temples that are listed in the Paadal Petra Sthalangal of south India. It is to be highly noted that these particular temples are located on the bank of River Cauvery and its distributaries that flows into the Bay of Bengal.

These temples are the most sought after Lord Shiva temples that are thronged by the devotees and pilgrims on the day of Shivarathri and other religious important days and auspicious days related to Lord Shiva.

Peoples from within the district of Karaikal and rest of Tamil Nadu visit these temples on all the festive days with great devotion and dedication plus religious enthusiasm and social spirit.

The temples located in this holy town are as follows.

Thirunallaru temple is located at a distance of about 5 km west of Karaikkal on the Kumbakonam road; it is situated on the south bank of Cauvery.

Dharumapuram temple is located at a distance of nearly 2 km on the thirunallaru – karaikal road and takes a right to reach temple that is situated on the south bank of Cauvery. It is to be highly noted that Vettakkudi temple is located at Karaikal, it is south bank of Cauvery.

Thiruthelicheri, Kovilpathu temple is located inside Karaikkal town and Paarvateeswarar Devasthanam is also included in the list of Paadal petra Sthalam, it is also on the south bank of Cauvery. Special pujas and rituals are conducted as per the Vedic practices at these temples by the head priest.
