Navreh, the lunar New Year in Kashmir or Kashmiri Hindu New Year, is celebrated on the first day of Chaitra Navratri which heralds the onset of spring season. Navreh coincides with the first day of the Chaitra Shukla Paksh. In 2023, Navreh date is March 22.
Navreh 2023-2024 is the first day of 5099 of the Sapath Rishi Samvat calendar or the Kashmiri Hindu calendar. This is mentioned in Rajtarangini and the Nilamat Purana and considered as sacred in Kashmir as Maha Shivratri.
Navreh is observed as Ugadi, Telugu and Kannada New Year’s day, in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. This festival is celebrated as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra and Goa.
Sindhi New Year, Cheti Chand, is observed on the next day by Sindhi people.
