During Navratri, many people observe fasting and offer special prayers and bhog (food offerings) to the goddess. The bhog offered during Navratri varies from region to region, but here are some common dishes that are often prepared as part of Navratri bhog:

1st Day, 22 September 2025, Monday – Shailputri Navdurga Puja

As per North Indian beliefs, offering ‘Ghee‘ on Pratipada makes devotee free from all types of diseases and gets him great health.

2nd Day, 23 September 2025, Tuesday – Brahmacharini Navdurga Puja

In North India, Sugar is offered as Naivedya.

दूसरे दिन, शक्कर निवेदन कीजिये| प्रशाद घर में सभी सदस्यों को देने से सभी को आयु वृद्धि होती है|

3rd Day, 24 September 2025, Wednesday – Chandraghanta Navdurga Puja

In North India, Milk is offered as Naivedya.

तीसरे दिन, दूध या दूध से बानी किसी भी खीर या मिठाई निवेदन करने से दुःख से मुक्ति होक आनंद प्राप्ति होती है|

4th Day, 25 September 2025, Thursday – Kushmanda Navdurga Puja

North Indian devotees offer Malpua on Chaturthi day.

मालपुआ निवेदन करने से बुद्धि की विकास होती है|

5th Day, 26 September 2025, Friday – Skandamata Navdurga Puja

On Panchami day, Bananas are offered as Naivedya.

पंचमी के दिन, केले का नैवैद्य अर्पित करने से शरीर स्वस्थ रहता है।

6th Day, 27 September 2025, Saturday – Katyayani Navdurga Puja

7th Day, 28 September 2025, Sunday – Kalratri Navdurga Puja

On Maha Saptami day, North Indian people offer items made of Jaggery are offered to Goddess Durga.

गुड़ का नैवेद्य निवेदन करने से मुक्ति मिलती है एवं आकस्मिक संकटों से रक्षा भी होती है।

8th Day, 29 September 2025, Monday – Mahagauri Navdurga Puja

On Ashtami day, Coconuts are offered in North India.

नारियल का निवेदन करने से संतान संबंधी परेशानियों से छुटकारा मिलता है।

9th Day, 30 September 2025, Tuesday – Siddhidhatri Navdurga Puja

On Mahanavami day Til / Recipes made of Sesame is offered to Goddess Durga and is distributed among needy people.

तिल का निवेदन करने से मृत्यु भय से मुक्ति मिलेगी और आकस्मिक दुर्घटनाओं से राहत मिलेगी |

Apart from the above listed traditional Prashad / Bhog, here are some common dishes that are often prepared as part of Navratri bhog:

  1. Sabudana Khichdi: This is a popular dish made from soaked tapioca pearls cooked with potatoes, peanuts, and spices.
  2. Kuttu Ki Puri: Kuttu (buckwheat) puris are deep-fried bread made from buckwheat flour and usually served with potato curry or yogurt.
  3. Singhare Atta Ka Halwa: A sweet dish made from water chestnut flour, ghee, sugar, and garnished with chopped nuts.
  4. Aloo Ki Sabzi: A simple curry made with boiled potatoes and spices. It’s a common accompaniment to puris or parathas during Navratri.
  5. Fruit Chaat: A mixture of various fruits with a sprinkle of rock salt and black pepper, often served as a refreshing snack.
  6. Makhana Kheer: A dessert made from foxnuts (makhana), milk, sugar, and flavored with cardamom and nuts.
  7. Sama Rice (Barnyard Millet) Khichdi: Sama rice is commonly used as a fasting grain, and it’s prepared in a similar way to sabudana khichdi.
  8. Coconut Ladoo: These are sweet coconut balls made with grated coconut, sugar, and cardamom powder.
  9. Sago (Sabudana) Kheer: A creamy dessert made from soaked sago pearls, milk, sugar, and garnished with nuts.
  10. Rajgira Paratha: Parathas made from amaranth flour (rajgira) are a staple during Navratri fasting.
  11. Paneer Tikka: Some people also prepare paneer tikka using special ingredients allowed during fasting, like sendha namak (rock salt).

It’s important to note that during Navratri, certain foods like grains, lentils, onions, and garlic are avoided by those observing strict fasts. People also use ingredients like sendha namak (rock salt) instead of regular salt.

Navratri bhog is not only about the food but also about the devotion and rituals associated with the festival. Many people visit temples and perform aarti during this time. The bhog offered to the goddess is considered sacred, and after being offered, it is often distributed as prasad (blessed food) to the devotees.
