14 December 2014 is Kalashtami Pujan. Masik Kala Ashtami Vrat falls on Ashtami tithi of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of every Hindu month.

Kalashtami is an auspicious day for the devotees of Lord Kalabhairava (a manifestation of Lord Shiva) who observe fasting on this day.

Kalashtami of 14 December 2014 falls in Margashirsha Month as per Amavasyant calendars and in Poush Month as per Purnimant (North Indian Hindi) calendars.

It falls in Karthigai Masam of Tamil calendar, Vrischikam Masam in Malayalam calendar and Agrahan Month in Bengali Panjika.

Kalashtami Vrat is mostly observed in Maharashtra, Deccan Karnataka, Marathi influenced areas of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and some parts of North India.

Generally, Kalashtami is observed on the day when Ashtami prevails in the night.
