Mauni Amavasya Snan at Kumbh Mela 2021 – 11 February



Mauni Amavasya Snan is an auspicious bathing at Kumbha Mela. In 2021, Mauni Amavasya date is February 11. This time it is even more auspicious as Kumbha Mela is being celebrated at Haridwar. This Kumbh Mela is a Mahakumbh Mela which is celebrated for once in 12 years.

Mauni Amavasya is Magha Amavasya as per North Indian Hindi calendars and Paush Amavasya (Pushya Amavasya) as per Amavasyant calendars followed in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

It is widely believed that on this date the planetary positions are most favorable for bathing in the holy river. On this day, Rishabh Dev, considered as the first sage broke his long vow of silence and bathed in the holy waters at Haridwar. The maximum number of pilgrims are found in the mela on this day.

Mauni Amavasya 2021 falls in Makaram Month of Malayalam calendar while in Thai Masam of Tamil calendar.

यह व्यापक मान्यता है कि इस दिन ग्रहों की स्थिति पवित्र नदी में स्नान के लिए सर्वाधिक अनुकूल होती है। इसी दिन प्रथम तीर्थांकर ऋषभ देव ने अपनी लंबी तपस्या का मौन व्रत तोड़ा था और यहीं संगम के पवित्र जल में स्नान किया था। इस दिवस पर मेला क्षेत्र में सबसे अधिक भीड़ होती है।

This Punya Snan in Kumbha Mela is the biggest bathing day at the largest religious congregation. It is referred to as Shahi Snan (Royal Bath). Nearly 4 crore devotees participate in this Shahi snan and perform punya snan.
