Mantra Samputikarana is a specific tantric practice where mantras are synthesized or conjoined in particular sequences, often by combining powerful beejaksharas (seed syllables), main mantras, or stotras for a distinct spiritual or ritual effect. This procedure is done based on explicit rules taught by a guru, and each Samputikarana sequence is used for a targeted purpose like healing, protection, overcoming obstacles, or enhancing ritual potency.
Meaning and Process
The term “Samputikarana” refers to enclosing or embedding a mantra (core mantra) within other mantras or specific seed syllables (beejas), essentially acting as a mantra sandwich.
This can mean prefixing and suffixing a main mantra with a beeja or another mantra, or alternating them in a determinate structure.
The exact pattern varies per tradition, deva, and ritual requirement. For example, “OM” or a specific beeja like “Shrim” may be placed before and after the main mantra to amplify its effect.
Sometimes, entire stotras like Lalitha Sahasranama or Vishnu Sahasranama are recited with Samputikarana methods, targeting specific nakshatras or conditions.
Ritual and Application
The deployment of Samputikarana usually requires an upadesha (initiation) from a qualified guru, since incorrect usage can potentially cause harm or be ineffective.
Classical texts and practitioners identify three main goals: astra (energetic weapon for protection), kamya (for specific worldly desires), and para (for liberation).
Samputikarana is often employed in advanced tantric and Sri Vidya practices (Navavarana, Mantra Sadhana), Pratyangira, Bhairava, and various Mahavidya upasanas for specialized purposes.
For certain practices, Samputikarana may involve identifying specific slokas or mantras based on the devotee’s nakshatra and reciting them in a samputita (enclosed) format.
Example of Samputikarana Pattern
A general pattern:
If “X” is a core mantra and “Y” is a beeja (seed syllable) or another mantra, a basic samputikarana structure is:
Y X Y
For instance:
“Om Shrim Shri Mahalakshmyai Namah Shrim Om” (where “Shrim” is the beeja samputed before and after the main mantra).
Samputikarana powerfully alters the vibrational signature of a mantra, making it suitable for unique ritual or remedial aims—always to be done under proper guidance.
