Madana Panchami

Madana Panchami is an auspicious day to perform Saraswati Puja. In 2026, Madana Panchami date is January 23. It falls on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha in Magha Month.

This day is considered as Saraswati Jayanti, the birth day of Mata Saraswati, the Goddess of wisdom and learning. Those who performs Saraswati Puja on this day would be blessed with Ashta Aishwaryams (eight types of wealth).

On Madana Panchami day, devotees wake up early from the bed and observe ceremonial bath. Wearing white clothes during puja is preferable. Clean the puja place and offer Shodashopachar Puja (16 steps of puja procedure) to Saraswathi Maa. Special recipes are offered to the Goddess.

Madana Panchami is also referred to as Shri Panchami, Vasanta Panchami and Maghi Saraswati Puja.

Spiritual Importance

The festival marks Saraswati Jayanti, invoking her for eloquence, music, and learning, while “Madana” signifies Kama Deva’s revival by Shiva, symbolizing creative passions and marital harmony in South Indian lore. Telugu traditions emphasize it for students starting education and couples seeking progeny blessings.

Key Rituals

Perform early morning puja from 7:15 AM to 12:50 PM: bathe, wear yellow or white, clean the altar, and offer Shodashopachara to Saraswati with yellow flowers, sweets (payasam), books, and veena.
