Krushi Purnima 2026

Krushi Purnima is a farmers festival celebrated throughout India to mark the herald of Monsoon season. In 2026, Krushi Purnima date is June 29.

Krushi Purnima falls on Jyeshta Purnima, Full Moon in Jyeshta Month as per Hindu calendar.

It is also celebrated as Vata Purnima Vrata, Eruvaka Purnima, Deva Snana Purnima, etc.. in many places of India.

Krushi Purnima (or Krishi Purnima) is actually just another name for Eruvaka Purnima, the very same festival we were just discussing!

The word Krushi translates directly to “agriculture,” “farming,” or “hard work” in Sanskrit and Telugu. So, Krushi Purnima literally means the “Full Moon of Agriculture.”

While names like Vrishabha Pooja focus on the bulls and Eruvaka focuses on the plough, calling it Krushi Purnima honors the broader picture: the dedication and hard work of the farmers themselves.

The Science and Belief Behind the Date

There is a specific reason why this agricultural kickoff happens on this particular full moon (Jyeshtha Purnima):

  • The Moon’s Role: In traditional Indian astronomy and agriculture, the Moon is considered the “Lord of Herbs and Plants” (Oshadhipathi).

  • Cooling the Earth: It is believed that on this specific full moon night, the moon’s rays are exceptionally nourishing and help cool down the soil after the blistering summer heat.

  • Prepping for Seeds: This cooling effect, combined with the incoming monsoon rains, creates the perfect, fertile environment in the soil for the seeds to sprout and thrive.

So, Krushi Purnima isn’t just a celebration—it is the exact moment farmers believe the earth is perfectly primed for them to start their krushi (hard work) for the season.
