Garuda panchami as per our tradition is celebrated by all women married or unmarried. Women will go to the ant hill and offer pooja to naga and rice kolkattai (sweet as well dhal one) is served as naivaidhyam and the mud from the ant hill is brought to home. after that brothers are told to sit on the rangoli and sisters offer pooja to them. Sisters will do vrath and eat only baked food (such as idli or rice kolkattai) oil is completely banned on that day. The story will be recited and the shoulders of brothers were slightly pat by sisters with the sticks of banyan and kanagalai leaves. They pray for the good health and longetivity of brothers.

GARUDA’s mom was VINATA, not KADHRU. In fact, KADHRU is one of GARUDA’s mortal enemies, being the mother of nagas.
