Krishnammal, Duraiammal Temple in Kalyanapuram

Arulmigu Krishnammal, Duraiammal Temple in Kalyanapuram.. There is beautiful temple dedicated to the divine sister goddesses, Sri Krishnammal and Sri Duraiammal, and separate shrines are also dedicated to them. The address of the temple is No.56, Veppathur, Kalyanapuram ( On the Banks of Cauvery River), Tiruvidaimaruthur Taluk, Thanjavur District.

As per legend, these two divine sisters were born in a pious family at the present Kalyanapuram area before a century ago. Unlike other normal human girls, they didn’t spend their time in ordinary activities, but utilised their precious time, towards worshipping Lord Shiva and Shakti Devi, and during their teenage, when their parents were busily involved in looking for suitable alliances to them, they sincerely worshipped Ma Shakti Devi, and due to that, they have transformed into divine women, and they have also become mother goddesses, and from then onwards till now, they are doing lot of miracles in the lives of their devotees, like granting good and happy married life, giving good health and wealth, offering peace of mind etc., etc., Even for some staunch devotees, these two goddesses appears in the form of young female children, showers a pleasing smile, blesses them by taking human form, and for some devotees, they had even saved their lives, and these details were told by the temple priests as well as by the devotees!

Apart from these two mother goddesses, Lord Unmatha Bhairavar is also present in a separate shrine, which adds more popularity to this temple. Today (07.11.2022), I have visited this wonderful temple, which is situated on the banks of the Holy River Kaveri amidst beautiful scenery and natural greenery, which gives more pleasantness to our eyes and provides peacefulness to our mind. Recently while I was buying some vegetables from a Vendor at Kalyanapuram, he has advised me to visit this temple, in order to get peace of mind.

This temple Ammans are believed to be the Kula Devis for few people situated at Kalyanapuram, and they are also supposed to be the Ishta Devis, beloved goddesses even for some Tamil people living in abroad also! We can also find few stray dogs which used to wander around the temple without causing any nuisance to the visitors. If we offer some food to them, then they would joyfully shake their tails, and would also have a closer look on us, and then they would eagerly taste the food. Those who are interested can offer clothes to the mother goddesses and also to Lord Kalabhairava by paying the prescribed amount to the temple priest, who used to move with us in a friendly manner.

There is a famous ancient Amman Tamil devotional song and some of the verses from that song are as follows:-

1.Amma you are the best companion to us, without your support, we could never do anything. You act like a motivating force and gives great divine energy, enthusiasm and eagerness, which we could never get it from anywhere else.

2.The meaning for the word Amma is our Universal Mother Ma Shakti Devi. Amman destroys our ego, lust, greed and anger and invokes great purity and divinity to our mind.

3.Oh my Dear Divine Mother, You are our Holy Annapurna, since you give plenty of food, daily, daily to us. We also want to call you as Amudha Purani, since apart from offering the food, you also offer the divine nectar to us in the form of courage, knowledge, wisdom, happiness and also grants salvation to us.
