Sri Kokilambika-Sri Kameeswarar temple is situated in the special village cited as Villianur, in the district of Pondicherry, in the state of Pondicherry in South India. The presiding deities of this temple are Sri Kameeswarar, (Kameswarar, Mirameeswarar, Narasinganathar, Naduvazhinathar, Vaidyanathar, Vilwasenar (Lord Shiva) and his consorts are Kokilambikai (Kuyilammai, Muthammai).
The holy tree of this temple is Vilwa. The holy waters of this temple are Brahmma theertham and Hruthapa Nasini. The agamam or pooja of this temple is called as Kameeyam. This temple is approximately 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical name of this special place is Vilwanallur.
The festivals that are celebrated in this temple are Brahmmotsavam to Mother-Goddess in Aadi Pooram in July-August, Mahasivarathri (February-March), Aipasi Skanda Sashti and Annabishekam in October-November, Chitra Poornima in April-May, Aani Tirumanjanam (June-July), Skanda Sashti and Iypasi Annabishekam (November-December), Vaikasi Swati Brahmmotsavam and car festival in May-June, Chithirai New Year Day (April-May), Vinayaka Chaturthi, Navarathri in Purattasi (September-October), Makara Sankranthi (January-February), Dhanur month and Thiruvadhirai (December-January), Karthikai Laksha Deepam (lighting one lakh lamps) in November-December, Aani Tirumanjanam in June-July, Pradosha days (13th day from New Moon or Full Moon day) and Panguni Uthiram (March-April) are celebrated in the temple.
At present all the devotees, pilgrims and tourists are wholeheartedly invited into the shrine for homams, worship, prayers and rituals. A huge crowd of pilgrims and devotees visit this holy place on weekends, festival occasions, Hindu religious auspicious days and national holidays. On the day of Maha Shivratri, an ocean of devotees, pilgrims and tourists throng this temple with great devotion and dedication.
