As per the great epic Mahabharata, Kindama was a rishi who lived in the dense forests. Kindama was a very holy sage and he lived in his hermitage along with his consort. Though he was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, and got great meditative powers through his penance, he was interested in enjoying physical comforts, and hence once, he and his wife were turned in the form of deer, and he started making intercourse with his wife. At that time, King Pandu of Hastinapur, who came to the forest for the purpose of hunting, mistakenly shot Rishi Kindama through his arrow, and wounded him seriously.
Due to that Kindama, who was in the form of a deer cursed the king that he would die the moment when he engages in intercourse with any woman, and after giving the curse to Pandu, he and his wife were died.Due to that, after a few years, while Pandu was making intercourse with his consort Mathri, he died due to the curse of Rishi Kindama.
Kindama was considered as a great rishi and he had done several years of penance and got lot of spiritual powers through the blessings of Lord Shiva. Due to his bad fate, he was died in the hands of king Pandu. It is believed that due to his good karma, he and his wife went to the Indra Loka, and still enjoying all sorts of comforts in their life.
