Karva Chauth is annual festival celebrated by Hindu and some Sikh women in North India and some parts of Pakistan. It is mainly celebrated in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Karva Chauth falls on the fourth day following Sharad Purnima (Full Moon day in Ashwin Month). It falls exactly nine days prior to Diwali (Deepavali).
On Karva Chauth, married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands. After getting the sight of moonrise, women break their fast.
It is a similar festival to Atla Thaddi of Andhra Pradesh which is celebrated on the preceding day of Karva Chauth.
