It is believed on this day Lord Vishnu wakes up from his four-month Yoga nidra (cosmic sleep). These four holy months are observed as Chaturmas vrat (Shravan month, Bhadrapad month, Ashwin month, and Kartik month).
Kartik Ekadasi Pandharpur Yatra is the most popular celebrations during Kartik month in Maharashtra. Usually, Palkhi Yatra starts on first day of Kartik month and continues till Kartik Purnima but the most auspicious day is Kartik Ekadasi. Kartik Ekadasi also marks the beginning of Panchaka vrat.
Tulsi Vivah or Tulsi Saligram Vivah Puja is also celebrated on Kartik Ekadashi. It is observed on Ksheerabdi Dwadasi or Kartik Purnima.
