Kalashtami – 5 September 2015

5 September 2015 is Kalashtami Vrat. Kalashtami Pujan falls on Ashtami tithi of Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of every Hindu month. This Kalashtami is also observed as Sri Krishna Janmashtami (Ashtami Rohini, Krishnashtami, Sri Jayanti / Gokulashtami).

Kalashtami is an auspicious day for the devotees of Lord Kalabhairava (a manifestation of Lord Shiva) who observe fasting on this day.

Kalashtami of 5 September 2015 falls in Shravan Month as per Amavasyant calendars and in Bhadrapada Month as per Purnimant (North Indian Hindi) calendars.

It falls in Aavani Masam of Tamil calendar, Chinga Masam in Malayalam calendar and Bhadra Month in Bengali Panjika.

Kalashtami Vrat is mostly observed in Maharashtra, Deccan Karnataka, Marathi influenced areas of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and some parts of North India.

Generally, Kalashtami is observed on the day when Ashtami prevails in the night.
