Kaisika Dwadasi in Tirumala Tirupati Temple

Kaisika Dwadasi (Utthana Dwadasi, Ksheerabdhi Dwadashi) is a big celebration in Tirumala Tirupati Venkateswara swamy Temple. In 2016, Kaisika Dwadasi date is November 11.

In view of Kaisika Dwadasi festival, the TTD cancels arjitha sevas like Kalyanotsavam, Arjitha Brahmotsavam, Unjal seva, Vasanthotsavam and Sahasra Deeplankara seva in Srivari Temple. Suprabhatham, Thomala seva and Archana will be performed to the presiding deity in Ekantham.

On Kaisika Dwadasi, the processional deity of Lord Ugra Srinivasa is brought out of the temple complex (this is the only day in a year Ugra Srinivasa’s processional deity is brought out) and taken in a grand procession around the Mada Streets in the morning on a golden Thiruchi along with his two divine consorts. ‘Dwadasi Asthanam’ is also observed inside the temple’s sanctum by the priests.

Utthana Ekadasi is the day when Lord Vishnu wakes up from his cosmic sleep. Vishnu goes into cosmic sleep on Deva Sayana Ekadasi (Ashada Shukla Ekadasi) and wakes up on this Ekadasi (Kartika Shukla Ekadasi). Chaturmas vrat (a vrat of four holy months) ends on this day.

Kaisika Dwadasi is named after the ragam of a song which was sung last in praise of the Lord by devotee Chandala Bhakta Nambaduvan.
