In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka this festival is celebrated as Ugadi. Marathi people celebrate it as Gudi Padwa. In Kashmir, it is popular as Navreh.

As Tamil people follow Sauramana Panchanga, Varusha Pirappu, Puthandu, Chithirai Vishu, is celebrated as the Tamil New Year celebrated all around the world. In 2018, Varusha Pirappu or Puthandu date is April 14. It is celebrated on Mesha Sankranti day.
Odiya New Year is celebrated as Mahavishuba Sankranti, Meru Sankranti, Pana Sankranti, etc.. In 2018, Mahavishuba Sankranti date is April 14.
