Hera Panchami festival is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi who appears anxious because her husband (Jagannath) forgets to take her. When Lord Jagannath returns from his journey he forgets to take her along with him. Goddess Lakshmi enters the Gundicha Temple through Badadanda and returns secretly from the ‘Heragohri Sahi’ after breaking a small piece of Nandigosha Ratha. It is all to teach a lesson to her beloved husband.
Lord Jagannath is stopped at Kalahata Dwara on his return journey to his sanctum. There he convinces his beloved wife and on their reunion Rasagollas are offered as Prasada.
