Hartalika Teej Vrat Vidhi, Puja Procedure of Hartalika Vrat is given here.. Hartalika Teej Vrat is observed on Shukla Paksha Tritiya in Bhadrapada Month as per Hindu calendar. In some calendars, ‘Hasta’ nakshatra is also considered as the prime aspect for the day.

Though it is also observed by unmarried women in some areas, it is exclusively performed by married women for best health, long living and wealth for the family.

Since the morning, women observe fasting on this day. The divine couple of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva are worshipped on this day. The prime importance is given to clay idols.

When it comes to rituals and tradition of the puja, some people do ‘Kalasha Sthapana’ for Puja but some people perform it without installing Kalasha. It depends on their family’s traditions and regional rituals.

Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva are worshipped with Shodashopachar Puja. The performer offers bangles, kajal, mehandi, Kumkum, turmeric, flowers, saree, etc. are offered to Goddess Parvati (Gauri). Special Naivedyam (bhog) is offered to the divine couple. In some places, Lord Shiva is also offered new clothes.

At the end of the Puja, Hartalika Teej Vrat Katha is recited.

After the completion of Hartalika Teej Vrata, the performer offers Dakshina to the Brahmin. Depending on their financial status, the ‘Dakshina’ varies. Other married women is also offered food offerings like sweets, saree, bangles, kajal, etc based on the local traditions.
