Govind Das, a Freedom Figher

Govind Das (1896–1974) was a great freedom fighter and an able politician. He was born in a rich merchant family in Jabalpur in the year 1896. Das was interested in spiritual and political affairs, and travelled in both the paths. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Ram, and used to pray to him for the welfare of the entire universe.

Das was a well-known Hindi writer, and he wrote several articles on spiritual and social issues. He was against caste discrimination, and he was the supporter of women’s rights, and encouraged the re-marriage of widows. He was an active politician from 1947 to 1974.

Das was a friend and follower of Mahatma Gandhi. Similar to Gandhi, he used to wear Khaddar cloths, and lived a simple and a disciplined life. He was praised by the common public and the politicians for his kind attitude over others. He has done many social welfare activities, and given food, clothing and shelter to the poor people lived in the urban villages. He was imprisoned by the British government during a rally. He was the Padma Bhushan awardee and he died in the year 1974.

Let us praise the noble man.
