Godh Bharai is an auspicious ceremony celebrated during pregnancy to bless the unborn baby. It is a welcome function of the unborn baby to the family. The mother-to-be will be blessed by elders, guests, relatives, friends and all other well-wishers for best health and safe pregnancy and healthy delivery of the baby.
It is known as Seemandham in Kerala (Malayalam), Valakappu in Tamil Nadu, Shaad in Bengal and Srimantham in Telugu (Telangana & Andhra Pradesh).
Godh Bharai is a baby shower function which literally means to ‘Fill the Lap’.
The time of celebrating Godh Bharai depends upon the community and tradition. In North India, Godh Bharai is generally celebrated when the pregnant lady completes her seventh month of pregnancy. In some communities, it is celebrated at the end of eighth month.
Apart from the given muhurat, Abhijit Muhurat, Godhuli Muhurat, Shubh Choghadiya are also considered auspicious muhurat for Godh bharai.
