The portals of the Gangotri Temple would remain closed for pilgrims from the following day of Diwali, November 15 in 2023.
Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, one of the most auspicious pilgrimages for Hindus and part of Char Dham Yatra. The other pilgrimages of Char Dham yatra are – Badrinath Temple, Kedarnath Temple and Yamunotri temple.
Gangotri Temple remains opened from Akshay Tritiya day to Diwali day. On Diwali day, with performing full Vedic rituals the temple will be closed.
Gangotri temple is situated at a height of 3200 meters and considered as the point where King Bhagiratha worshipped Lord Shiva to bring Ganga Maa on to the earth. That sacred spot is called as ‘Bhagirath Shila. It is believed that at that spot, Goddess Ganga touched the earth.
