Travancore Devaswom Board president M P Govindan Nair has said that TDB is all for the declaration of Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple as a national pilgrim centre.
He told mediapersons here on Monday that the TDB has submitted a detailed memorandum to the Prime Minister seeking various proposals for improving the basic facilities at the temple.
The TDB president said that the Devaswom sought additional forest land for undertaking development projects for providing better facilities for the pilgrims. The TDB sought the Prime Minister’s intervention for delinking Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple from the purview of Periyar Tiger Reserve for implementing various schemes, Govindan Nair said.The TDB president expressed hope that the Prime Minister would visit Sabarimala temple in January. Govindan Nair said that the sewage treatment plant at Sannidhanam would start functioning by the month-end. The work on the plant got delayed due to the objections raised by the Forest Department, he said.
The TDB president said efforts were made for getting the clearance from the Union Environment and Forest Department for the augmentation of the capacity of the Kunnar dam. Govindan Nair said the aggregate revenue of Lord Ayyappa temple stood at 47 crore as on November 30, `10 crore higher than the revenue on same date, last season.
