Brahmacharini Navdurga, Apperance & Dhyana Mantra

Brahmacharini Mata is the second among Navadurga Goddess, nine Mother deities worshipped during Durga Navratri. Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped on second day during Navaratri.

Brahmacharini Maa Pooja 2025 date is September 23. In Vasant Navratri 2025, Brahmacharini Maa is worshipped March-April.

Appearance and Iconography of Brahmacharini:

Brahmacharini mata, the second manifestation of Navdurga (Nine Goddesses worshipped during Navratri), appears in a simple form. Brahmacharini wears a white and baby pink saree and looks very calm in nature. Mata Bramhacharini holds a Kamandal (pitcher) in her left hand and a Japamala (rosary) in her left hand.

The name “Brahmacharini” comes from “Brahma,” meaning sacred knowledge or penance, and “Charini,” meaning one who follows or pursues. She is an aspect of Goddess Parvati and is depicted wearing a white saree, holding a japamala (rosary) in her right hand and a kamandalu (water pot) in her left. Brahmacharini embodies purity, devotion, knowledge, patience, emotional strength, and single-minded dedication.

Her legend describes how Parvati performs intense tapasya (penance) for about 5,000 years to win Lord Shiva’s love, enduring hardships and demons, surviving only on belpatra and water. She symbolizes spiritual aspirations, discipline, fortitude, love, and loyalty. Worshipping Brahmacharini is believed to bless devotees with control over the senses, emotional balance, success, knowledge, and ultimately spiritual liberation (moksha). She is associated with the Svadhishthana (sacral) chakra and the planet Mars.

In iconography, her white attire signifies purity and simplicity, the japamala symbolizes meditation and sacred mantra knowledge, and the kamandalu stands for a simple, self-contained life of austerity. Devotees fast and meditate on her during Navratri to gain her blessings of steadfastness, wisdom, and emotional strength.
