There are lot of blessing quotes in our Hinduism, and it would be used especially by our grandparents. Whenever the grandchildren fall at the feet of the grandparents, they would bless and tell to them, “Ayushman Bhava”, which means live a long and blessed life. When a woman falls down at the feet of her elders, they would bless her as, “DheergaSumangali Bhava”, which means let your consort lead a long life.
In ancient times, young ones would give lot of respect to the elders, follow their advices, they would never neglect them, and would be very much interested to receive blessings from them. But nowadays, we cannot expect the same kind of treatment from the younger generation, though certain exceptional ones would be keen in respecting the elders.
Lord Krishna in his Bhagavat Gita teachings tells to Arjuna, “Hey my dear Arjuna, give respect to everybody, and especially the elder ones, consider them similar to your parents, and show great love and affection on them. Those who treat others respectfully must be considered as respecting me itself, since I dwell on the souls of everyone, irrespective of their age, caste, creed, gender and religion”.
During ancient Gurukula type of studies, students used to serve their Gurus in a pleasing manner. They are also subject to do the household activities of the Guru, and they were ready to even sacrifice their lives for the sake of their Gurus. They have seen their Guru in the form of the god,”Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheswara”.
