The Bhiknoor Sri Siddharameshwara Swamy Temple is a highly revered and ancient Shiva temple located in Bhiknoor village, Kamareddy district, Telangana. It is one of the most distinctive temples in South India, primarily due to its reverse-positioned Shiva Lingam, a form rarely found elsewhere.
Historical and Spiritual Significance
This temple dates back to the 15th century, built by Siddagiri and Ramagiri saints, who meditated in this region.
Legend says that a divine cow used to pour milk at a particular spot daily, revealing the location of a Swayambhu (self-manifested) Shiva Lingam, where the temple was then constructed.
The Lingam here faces south instead of north, symbolizing Lord Shiva’s yogic and austerity aspect (Dakshinamurthy tattva)—a unique spiritual form that radiates intense energy.
The temple’s presiding deity is Sri Siddharameshwara Swamy (a form of Lord Shiva). Devotees believe he fulfills wishes and grants spiritual blessings to sincere worshippers.
Architectural Features
The temple is designed in the Dravidian style, featuring a seven-tier Rajagopuram with seven kalasas.
The Mukha Mandapam (main hall) is supported by intricately carved pillars, and the Garbhagriha (sanctum) houses the reverse-facing Shiva Lingam.
A large bell at the entrance serves as a signature of the temple and can be heard across the village.
