Bahuda Yatra or Bahuda Jatra, Return Festival of Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra

Bahuda Yatra or Bahuda Jatra is one of the main festivals celebrated during Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra. In 2017, Bahuda Yatra date is July 3. Bahuda Yatra is the return journey of the three ratha (chariots) during Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra.

The chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra visit Gundicha temple and stay in Adapa Mandapa for a week. After the stay of seven days, the chariots return to Puri Jagannath temple on the ninth day.

Visiting Mausima Temple and offering of Poda Pitha:

As a part of Bahuda Jatra, the three ratha visit Mausima temple, in which the main deity is the aunt of Lord Jagannath (Mausima means aunt). In Mausima temple, Lord Jagannath along with Balabhadra and Subhadra are offered naivedya, a sweet recipe, which is called ‘Poda Pitha.
