Annamacharya is considered the incarnation of the divine sword Nandaka of Lord Venkateshwara. He was the first Vaggeyakara and the pioneer of Sankeertana Sampradaya in Telugu. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Venkateshwara and has written more than 32000 Sringara and Adhyatma Keertanas with the stamp of Venkateshwara.
Annamacharya was born on 9th May 1408 at Tallapaka in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. Even as a child, he exhibited prodigious powers as a devotee of Lord Venkateshwara and even had the divine vision of the Lord at the tender age of eight. At a very young age, he left his home and reached Tirumala. On the way, he got the blessings of Goddess Alamelmanga who advised him to climb the hills bare feet as the holy mountain is made of saligram stones.
He later became a disciple of Sathakopayati of Ahobilam. On the request of his parents, he got married to Thimmakka. Even after marriage, Annamacharya led a pious life and composed thousands of keertanas on Lord Venkateshwara.
Annamacharya also called Annamayya lived a full fledged life in the service of the Lord and attained the Lord’s abode on 23 february of 1503. His compositions are popular around the world even to this day.
