30 July 2014 is Andal Jayanti / Aadi Pooram. It is celebrated widely in Tamil Nadu and some parts of Kerala and Karnataka. The Pooram Nakshatram day in Aadi month is also celebrated as Andal Jayanti. Andal Ammal is believed as the incarnation of Goddess Shakti Devi.
In 2014, it falls on Wednesday but when it falls on Friday, it is considered as even more auspicious as Aadi Velli (Friday in Aadi masam) is dedicated to Sakti Ammal.
Aadi Pooram is one of the big festivals at Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, Melmaruvathur Adhi Parasakthi Temple, Srivilliputtur Andal Temple, Tiruneveli temple, Vedaranyam temple, and many other Sakti Amman temples in Tamil Nadu.
