5 August 2016 is Aadi Pooram festival in Tamil Nadu. Aadi Pooram is also celebrated in many parts of the world such as Singapore, Malaysia, USA, UK, Australia, etc..
It falls in Aadi month (July – August) as per Tamil calendar. It is celebrated on the day of Pooram nakshatram in Aadi Masam (Purva Phalguni Nakshatra).
This festival is also celebrated as Andal Jayanthi, birthday of Andal Ammal who is believed as the incarnation of Goddess Sakti Devi.
Aadi Pooram is celebrated with much gusto in Madurai Meenakshi temple, Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Temple, Srivilliputtur Andal Temple, Tirunelveli, Vedaranyam temple, and other temples in Tiruvadaimarudhur, Mayavaram, Srivanjiyam and Tiruvannamalai.
