Today, 19 March 2012 is Som Pradosh Vrat. Pradosh which coincides with Somvar (Monday) is known as Som Pradosh Pujan. It is an auspicious vrata to please Lord Shiva with pujas and other rituals. This Som Pradosh falls in Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month in North Indian Hindi calendars and in Phalgun Month as per Marathi, Kannada, Telugu & Gujarati calendars. It falls in Panguni Masam in Tamil calendar and Meena Masam in Malayalam calendar.
Som Pradosh vrat of 19 March 2012 is the last and final Pradosh in Khara nama samvatsara (Hindu Year 2011-12).
Pradosh Shiva Puja time is 4.30 to 6’0 clock in the evening. Pradosha Ashtakam is the important prayer chanted during Pradosh Shiv Pujan.
