Aavani Moolam 2012: Avani Moola Festival in Madurai Meenakshi Temple

Aavani Moola or Avani Moola is the most important festival celebrated for 18 days at Madurai Meenakshi Temple in Aavani masam of Tamil calendar. Aavani Moola 2012 starts on 13th August and ends on 27th August 2012. It is celebrated on Moolam nakshatram in Aavani month. The Panchamurthi idols of Madurai temple will be taken out in procession through the streets. During Avani Moolam festival, Sivachariars enact the ten miracles performed by the Lord of Madurai, Lord Sundareshwarar swamy.

Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple will be closed on the day of Pittuku man sumantha leelai festival (on 9th day of the festival). Main Avani Moolam 2012 festival date is August 27.

Thursday, 23 August 2012: Ulava Kottai Aruliya Leelai- Nandeeswarar and Yazhi vaahanam

Friday, 24 August 2012: Pannanuku Angam Vetia leelai – Vrishabaruda Darisanam – Saiva Samaya Sthabitha Leelai.

Saturday, 25 August 2012: Sri Sundareshwarar Pattabhishekam

Sunday, 26 August 2012 Nari pari aakia thiruvilayadal.

Monday, 27 August 2012: Avani Moolam, Puttu Festival, Pittuku Mun Sumantha leelai
