Aavani Moola or Avani Moola is the most important festival celebrated for 18 days at Madurai Meenakshi Temple in Aavani masam of Tamil calendar. Aavani Moola 2017 starts on August 19 and ends on September 5.
It is celebrated on Moolam nakshatram in Aavani month. The Panchamurthi idols of Madurai temple will be taken out in procession through the streets. During Avani Moolam festival, Sivachariars enact the ten miracles performed by the Lord of Madurai, Lord Sundareshwarar swamy.
Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple will be closed on the day of Pittuku man sumantha leelai festival (on 9th day of the festival). Main Avani Moolam 2017 festival date is August 31.
