Yugavatara Vrata is an auspicious vow observed in Bhadrapada Month. In 2017, Yugavatara Vrata date is August 19. This day is a symbolic beginning of ‘Dwapara Yuga’ (Dwapara Yugadi). Some people also believe that this day marks the beginning of Treta Yuga (Treta Yugadi).
This Vrata falls on Krishna Paksha Trayodashi in Bhadrapada Month as per North Indian Hindi calendar which coincides with Krishna Paksha Trayodashi of Shravan Month according to Amavasyant Panchangam followed by Marathi Calendar, Kannada Calendar, Telugu Calendar and Gujarati Calendar.
According to Bhavishya Purana, this vrat begins by taking ritual bath in auspicious rivers and other water streams. Before the bath, the devotee applies gaumutra, doorva and mitti on body and performs punya snan.
On this day, Lord Vishnu is offered Shodashopachar Puja. The deity is offered ceremonial bath with Ghee, Milk and water. It is believed that this Vishnu Puja blesses the devotee with ‘Vishnu Loka Prapti’. Those who perform this vrata will be blessed with the merits equal to Gaya Shraddha.
