Some of us would admire about the strange appearance of Lord Venkateshwara Swamy, since it seems that he is hiding his face before us. Sometimes I used to scold him during the times of my own problems that he is putting the big NAMAM on his forehead, in order to escape from our eyes. We would be wondering about his big NAMAM, also called as Thiruman applied on his forehead, and also about his divine things, Shanku and Chakra kept on his shoulders. His eyes are partially closed, but his glittering smiling face attracts us for ever.
Why Lord Venkateshwara appears in this peculiar form? Is this is the form which he has himself chosen? What is the significance behind the different form of Lord Venkateshwara? Why he prefers to decorate himself with rich flower garlands and costly ornaments on his body?
If we read about it in detail, then automatically we would rejoice about the greatness of Lord Venkateshwara, and joyful tears would pour from eyes.
Actually Lord Vishnu came down to the earth from his divine abode Vaikunta, in order to marry Ma Padmavati, to whom, he has once given promise to marry her at the beginning of Kali Yuga. In order to fulfill her wishes, Lord Vishnu had taken the form of Lord Venkateshwara, went to the present place of Tirumala Hills, and performed meditation on an ant hill. And in course of time, he met Ma Padmavati, and married her. After the completion of marriage ceremony, since the divine couple wanted to settle down at Tirumala Hills, Lord Venkateshwara had thought for some time, and ordered the then king of Tirumala, to decorate his idol in this present form.
The reason of applying a big Thiruman on his forehead is, that, once if the devotees worship the holy mark Thiruman itself, they would be addicted with the god. Lord Vishnu, in the form of Venkateshwara, never used his divine things, Shanku and Chakra, and hence he kept it on his shoulders. Then we would think, that why the eyes of the Lord is partially closed! The reason behind is, that the great Lord Venkateshwara is doing deep meditation for the sake of universal goodness, and he would be in the state of meditation, till the end of this Kaliyuga.
Why the god wears lot of rich garlands on his body? The reason for wearing those nice things is, since the Lord is considered as the god of Wisdom and Fortunes, in order to grant sufficient wealth to his devotees, he wears it in a remarkable manner! Once if the great Lord wears those good ornaments, then his devotees also would get sufficient wealth, and they would also attain all kinds of prosperity in this earth.
Actually Lord Vishnu always loves to wear nice ornaments and garments. Since we consider Lord Venkateshwara as our universal father, we can get delighted, by seeing him wearing rich costumes on his body.In the Tirumala Temple, we can also see the holy feet of Lord Venkateshwara, and by having a glimpse of his holy feet, at least once in our life time, we would get relieved from our worldly bondage, and we would also attain the lotus feet of Lord Venkateshwara for ever.
