Tirupati Laddu is considered as the king among the sweets, and it is very famous among the devotees of Lord Venkateswara, since few centuries. It is the main item which would be offered as Holy Prasad to Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala.
The delicious laddus are given to the devotees after having their darshan of Lord Venkateswara in the temple. The laddu prasadam is prepared in the temple kitchen by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. It is believed that this Prasad item would cure the diseases of the devotees, and would give good physical strength and mental power.
In the Temple kitchen, the Tirupati Laddus would be prepared, under strict hygienic condition. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams are daily preparing lakhs of laddus, in order to distribute it to the devotees. The ingredients used in the preparation of Laddus are Gram flour, cashew nuts, cardamom, ghee and sugar.
Apart from small Laddus, big laddus are prepared only during festival seasons, and for the devotees who participate in the Kalyanotsavam seva, special laddus called as Kalyanotsavam Laddus would be given to them. Whenever, people visits and returns from Tirumala, people residing nearby their homes and their office colleagues would ask them to give Tirupati Laddu as Prasad to them. Since there is huge demand for Tirupati Laddus, we cannot buy large numbers of Laddus at one time.
The system of distributing Laddus was in practice since three hundred years, and from the start date of the practice, to till now, this Laddus is considered as a popular Prasad among the devotees of Lord Venkateswara.
