Tirupati Balaji laddoo, popular Prasad distributed among devotees of Sri Tirumala Tirupati Srivaru, Sri Venkateshwara swamy, has obtained copyright. Laddoo has been awarded geographical copyright that makes others away from making or marketing the sweet recipe under the same name. An application was sent to Chennai based Geographical Indication Registry in March 2008 by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam trust.
On 15th September 2009, the GI certificate has been granted to the TTD trust. The laddoo will be protected under law and all copyrights of the Tirupati Prasadam, Laddoo, are owned by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.
