The temple is located in Tiruvarur district at a village called Sethalapathy about 2 KMs from poonthottam bus stop on the Mayiladuthurai-Tiruvarur bus route.
The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva with name called Muktheeswarar and goddess name Swarnavalli.
The Significance of the temple is that who dies accidentally at an early age will attain swarga loga if their relatives perform the rituals at the place where the temple is situated.
When you enter the temple one will see a Nandi facing main god. In the prakaram the images of various gods are put by stone structure as per custom in the forming of a temple. Then a tree called sthalaviruksham Mantharamaram is grown under it’s a lingam called Mantharavaneshwarar is Installed. There is a navagraha gods kovil in the temple.
Outside of the temple a vinayagar temple with name adhivinayagar with a human face unlike with customary elephant face is also located. It is a unique one in the country. Special poojas and homams are performed on the day of chathurthi according to Tamil almanac.
The temple is visited by Tamil saints who sings and wrote poem in the praise of god has mentioned the village in their poems.
The temple is now renovated and the consecration was held on 8th of July 2012.
