Surya Grahan (Solar Eclipse) that occurs on 22 July, 2009 is the first grahanam in this new Hindu year. Hindus are mainly concerned about the Surya Grahan because of its extreme effects or results on people. Surya Grahan of 22 July, 2009 has a great importance because it is a sampoorna surya grahanam (total solar eclipse). Surya Grahan may show some bad effects on natives of some rashis (zodiac signs).
It is interesting that this Grahan is a total solar eclipse in some regions of India whereas some parts of India will view this as total lunar eclipse. In some parts of North India (Bihar and Madhya Pradesh), this grahanam is a total lunar eclipse. However, it will be partial eclipse (Pakshik graham) in most of the places in India. Grahan Gochaar – Effect of Surya Grahan on different rashis or zodiac signs:
As per the Grahan Gochaar, it is advisable to the natives of Pushyami nakshatra (birth star constellation) and the natives of Karka (Karkatak), Simha (Leo), Dhanu (Sagittarius) rasis to avoid seeing the Surya Grahan of 22 July, 2009.
Surya Grahan that occurs on 22 July, 2009 is most favorable and brings out good results to the natives of Vrushabh (Taurus), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra) and Kumbh (Aquarius) rasis or zodiac signs.

I want to know one thing, why temples are remain closed during Surya grahan or chandra grahan? But i read somewhere that any puja or vratham observed at the time grahan gives good results. There is no scientific reason behind the closing of temples or mandirs during solar or lunar grahans. But to remove or slay off the bad effects of grahan, temples are closed. After the release of grahan, some grahana shanti pujas are performed and open the temples. Grahan kaal is the very auspicious time to observe any vrat or saadhana or any other rituals.

Total Solar Eclipse or Sampoorna Surya Grahanam is not visible in USA, UK and Canada. However, the effect will be started before 4 – 5 hours. Exactly I could not find the time of the Grahanam effect in Ohio or USA. Please check whether your birthday (to which rashi you belong) falls on the category of rashis on which this Grahan effect is more. If you are one of the natives of that rashi, then please consult any good pundit. He will perform some Grahan Shanti Puja or Grahana Dosha pooja.

Pushyami Nakshatra (birthstar constellation) means, on which nakshatra a native is born or on the day of the native’s birth which nakshatra is there. As per traditional Hindu Astrology, Nakshatras are important rather than the dates.

The talks of surya grahan causing problems are scare mongering by the vested interests who want to make a fast buck from scaring gullible people. The very concept of rashis is stupidity personified.
