Sumangali Shraddh is observed on Navami in Pitru Paksha. It falls on 9th day in dark fortnight of Ashwin month of North Indian Hindi calendars. It coincides with Bhadrapada Krishna Navami as per Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu & Kannada Panchangams.

A dead sumangali woman is offered Shraddh by her son, son-in-law or grandson till her husband is alive.

After the death of her husband, no need to offer Sumangali Shraddh for her.

Sumangali Shraddh or Soubhagyavati Shraddh is also referred to as Avidhva Navami Shraddh. ‘Avidhava’ means a woman who is not a widow (Mutthaiduva).
