5 December 2016 is Subramanya Sashti, Champa Sashti, Malhari Sashti, Martand Sashti festival.
On Sashti in each month, Lord Subramanya is offered special pujas and Abhishekams. But, Subramanya Sashti is a highly meritorious day to perform puja to the six-faced god, Shanmukha. It falls on the sixth day of Margashira Masam as per the calendars followed in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
All temples dedicated to Subramanya Swamy in South India celebrate this festival with utmost enthusiasm and joyous fervor. Apart from Aarupadaiveedu in Tamil Nadu (Tirupparamkunram, Thiruchendur, Palani, Swamimalai, Thiruthani & Pazhamudircholai); Kukke Subramanya Temple near Mysore, Ghati Subramanya Temple near Bangalore, Skandagiri Subramanya Temple in Secunderabad (Hyderabad), Mopidevi Subramanya Swamy Temple near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh are the major temples where Subramanya Sashti is celebrated with utmost gusto.
Subramanya Sashti is observed with utmost gusto in all Subramanya temples in South India. Skandagiri Temple in Secunderabad (Hyderabad), Kukke Subramanya Temple near Mysore, Ghati Subramanya temple near Bangalore in Karnataka & all Aarupadai veedu temples in Tamil Nadu (Palani, Swamimalai, Tiruchendur, Tirupparankundram,Tiruttani & Pazhamudhircholai).
It is observed as Champa sashti (Chamba Shashti) in Khandoba Temple of Jejuri in Maharashtra. It marks the end of Martand Bhairav Shadrotrotsav in Khandoba Temple.
